Leena’s Anthem

I found this thing called script frenzy which is basically the screenwriting sect of nanowrimo however after 2007 or 2010 they shut script frenzy down. Long story short, they kept up the website and my eyes were glued on the bottom which read “plot finder” (or something like that) it had one about creating an anthem and one about a prodigy and with my recent re-interest in international affairs such as the ones between Pakistan and India (I’ve been interested in international affairs since the TRUE LIFE: Saudi Arabia aired on MTV in 2010 and followed young people resisting their country’s rules and finding ways to create for freedoms etc. for people their age).

I formulated a story or a longline in my head about a young girl named Leena who receives a violin from her mother as a young girl because she’s dying from a disease that couldn’t be treating in Leena’s hometown in Pakistan and her father knows that music is frowned upon in his town, and he doesn’t know anyone to teach Leena but he decides to let her keep it as a remembrance of her mother.

Mind you, in the town where Leena is from, the offspring is usually men and women don’t have a place in common affairs such as music, business etc. at the time of the beginning of the film. So Leena’s dad hides it from her but on her 13th birthday the year she has to prepare to find a husband for an arranged marriage her father has to leave Leena with her grandparents and he gives her the violin during this time, Leena becomes a prodigy and uses a stick connected to string with help from her grandparents who are very open minded and hate the rules enforced by the town people and other families and Leena teaches herself to play the violin and becomes a prodigy one day when soldiers storm into her house looking for the whereabouts of her father and they find her playing and send her away to school in america only to return years later at the height of the problems between India and Pakistan where she is to compose an anthem for Pakistan but after going through everything early on and in america she decides to create a piece of music that will unite india and Pakistan.

During this time she becomes blinded by a rioter leaking substances into the air and she puts a video on Facebook or whatever other social network website of her playing the violin (the anthem) with footage of her war torn town in the background and it becomes viral and starts to spread some sort of peaceful change across both india and Pakistan even though nothing is completely solved.

yeah that’s pretty much my idea,
Casey
